Auckland Police District Headquarters
The Auckland Central Police Hub was conceptualised to be welcoming, modern and to facilitate an environment to enable collaboration and flexible working.
RDT Pacific provided Project Management, Business Case and Cost Management services for this project.
There has been a significant shift in the way of working for the Police, with activity-based working and agile workspaces a requirement of this new property.
The working spaces of the fit out incorporated significant collaboration space, both formal and informal, as well as hot desk facilities, meeting rooms, lecture rooms and training rooms.
Most staff no longer have individual rooms, cubicles, or fixed desk spaces. These new physical spaces help drive organisational change within the Police to leverage this new open plan and collaborative way of working.
With large kitchen facilities and a commercial café, end of trip facilities and gymnasium integrated into the fit out, the facility enhances the NZ Police reputation as a good employer.
Working within an existing building posed multiple architectural and engineering challenges. The base build and fit out teams worked closely together to seismically strengthen the building and engineer structural systems to support operable walls, diesel generator and heavy vehicles within the building.
Challenges
- Stage 2 of the project was delivered when the building was occupied, requiring careful management of the continuing works in relation to Health & Safety, noise and related cost allowances.
- Landlord and tenant (Police) liability for works and also, undertaking works at the same time as the landlord works were progressing. This gave rise to difficulties in understanding the existing building and in planning for things not yet evident on site.
