Whangārei Hospital Redevelopment Programme
Since 2005, RDT Pacific has been engaged by Te Whatu Ora – Te Tai Tokerau (formerly Northland District Health Board) on a range of assignments for the redevelopment of Whangārei Hospital.
Redevelopment Stage 1 – Project Management
The first stage of the Site Master Plan, comprised the construction of an acute mental health unit and enabling works for the second stage of the redevelopment plan.
Site Master Planning
The preparation of a comprehensive Site Master Plan comprising new facilities as well as refurbishing existing buildings on a congested and operational site.
A key part of this process involved the conversion of the Clinical Services Plan into Models of Care which could subsequently be interpreted into an accommodation schedule to guide the planning team. Consideration needed to be given to the condition of the existing building stock and in particular the building services infrastructure serving both sites. The initial Site Master Plan ($180m) was completed in 2007 and has undergone several revisions to reflect changes in the way Te Tai Tokerau delivers health services.
Business Case Development – Stages 1 and 2 (2007-2008)
We prepared Business Cases for the first two stages of the site redevelopment programme.
Stage 1 ($25m) included the development of an Acute Mental Health Inpatient Unit.
Stage 2 ($65m) involved a range of intermediate projects in preparation for later stages of the redevelopment programme.
Programme Business Case Development ($2.3b, 2017¬2018)Management of a Programme Business Case entailed further development of the Site Master Plan based on the latest Clinical Services Plan and Models of Care.
Single Stage Business Case 1 – Critical Capacity ($27m, 2017-2018)
Management of the development of a Single Stage Business Case included a new Endoscopy Suite, expansion of the existing Theatre Suites and the Cardiac Catheter Laboratory.
Single Stage Business Case 2 – Compliance and Capacity ($50m, 2018-2019)
Development of a second Single Stage Business Case focused on responding to both building and service noncompliance issues facing the site. The Business Case was developed to work with the preferred Site Master Plan which formed the Programme Business Case.
