Whenua Pupuke – Waitematā Clinical Skills Centre
RDT Pacific provided Project Management services for Whenua Pupuke Clinical Skills Centre, the education centre at Te Whatu Ora – Waitematā at the North Shore Hospital campus.
Te Whatu Ora – Waitematā (formerly Waitematā District Health Board) supports the training needs of around 6,700 staff who provide high quality patient care to a population of over 630,000.
Waitematā is an area of rapid population growth and the DHB’s catchment was expected to increase by 20% over the next decade. In response, the hospital invested in several new facilities.
The conference, learning and research facilities had not changed since their construction, which meant there was an urgent requirement to for more capacity and spaces to better support teaching and learning.
The new two-story building accommodates 100 m² of shared teaching spaces for the hospital and its tertiary partners, a 250-seat auditorium, a teaching laboratory and shared office space.
The RDT Pacific team also:
- Identified an enabling package which could be procured and constructed earlier to de-risk the programme
- Provided and developed revised options for the building when the budget was threatened
- Fostered a collaborative team environment where consultants responded quickly when design changes resulted from VM initiatives or the user group process.
