Fisher & Paykel gets a head start on big expansion in East Tamaki
It may have a 30,000 m² footprint, but the Fisher & Paykel Appliances Distribution Centre redevelopment aims to tread lightly on its 10.4 hectare industrial site.
As the tenant representative for Fisher & Paykel Appliances, RDT Pacific is representing one of New Zealand’s most trusted brands to help deliver a state-of-the-art expansion project on Springs Road in East Tamaki.
“It’s our role to guide and support the seamless development of this project,” says RDT Pacific Associate Tim Walker. “We are part of a wider, talented project team who share a challenge mindset and a solutions-driven approach.”
RDT Pacific has been actively involved in the project from its early stages, assisting Fisher & Paykel Appliances with the development and negotiation of the lease agreement, tenant briefings, outline specifications and managing the integrated design process alongside contractors, Haydn & Rollett and project developer, Property for Industry (PFI).
Work onsite has commenced after the partial demolition of an existing building which remains in operation and the demolition of a distribution centre. The project team has navigated some challenges due to the brownfield nature of the site, and the requirement to maintain continuity of services to the existing campus, including safe pedestrian access and traffic flow.
“To keep the project on track, this complex process has required meticulous planning and coordination among a broad group of stakeholders to ensure minimal disruption,” says Tim.
As some of the existing structures on this site had become dated, and were no longer fit for purpose, the developers, PFI highlighted it as ideal for sustainable redevelopment.
Consistent with PFI’s commitment to sustainability, the building will be solar powered amongst other sustainable initiatives to target a minimum 5 Green Star rating.
For Fisher & Paykel Appliances, this expanded facility will add an extra 10,000 m² in response to growing business demand over the next 10-15 years.
“As we continue to grow both in New Zealand and around the world, Fisher & Paykel will be exploring new strategic ambitions, in sales volumes and in the way we engage with our customers.
“Growing our warehousing and distribution capacity and capabilities will be a key enabler for Fisher & Paykel, as we expand into new technologies, sales models, and segments. Long-term infrastructure planning helps us deliver a sustainable, profitable growth strategy,” said Eliza Humphreys, Fisher & Paykel GM Operations.
As the project transitions through the construction phase, RDT Pacific support will continue, right through to practical completion and lease commencement in November 2024.
