Mercury Baypark Arena
Mercury Baypark Arena is one of the most versatile multi-purpose venues built in Aotearoa New Zealand. This premier facility is designed to host any type of event. It comprises two auditoriums totalling almost 7,000 m², four meeting suites and two circulation areas joined together by an expansive entry foyer and café.
The Arena is designed as a simple freestanding element adjacent to the existing Baypark Stadium, surrounded by existing parking.
As Project Manager, RDT Pacific established and managed the framework for consultation with both the community and national sports organisations regarding specifications which led to the scoping of the Arena.
The facility is efficient in its use of energy and water. Solar hot water heating caters for base demand, while Clearlite panels in the six-court area almost eliminate the need for daytime lighting when low energy lamps are used. The Building Management System (BMS) allows scheduling of heating and air handling for maximum efficiency.
Construction of the venue followed thorough planning and extensive community consultation. With the help of intense value management and engineering, the project was delivered more than $1.5 million under budget.
The result is a fully functional facility that meets current demand with a good level of future-proofing.
