Te Pūkenga – Strategic space plan
Te Pūkenga – New Zealand Institute of Skills and Technology brought together the nation’s 16 institutes of technology and polytechnics, and nine industry training organisations to redesign how people learn in Aotearoa New Zealand. As part of their transformational journey, they needed to develop a strategic space plan to meet their needs and ambitions across a diverse property portfolio.
Te Pūkenga is operating a capital portfolio that needs to succeed in a rapidly changing environment. As a network, they need the right assets in the right volumes, in the right locations to enable efficient use and appropriate levels of utilisation to be achieved.
They approached the RDT Pacific Capital Intelligence team to develop a Strategic Space Plan.
The team engaged with key representatives across the organisation to ensure various needs were represented and incorporated, and effective performance measurement of required assets would meet long term goals.
The Strategic Space Planning Brief developed for Te Pūkenga is an aspirational plan for the provision, management, and care of the physical environments to support ako (teaching) approaches, working and operating models at a national level. This work included the creation of a Space Plan and a Space Planning Policy, as well as data models and recommendations for application.
To test and refine the concept for Te Pūkenga, a pilot site at WITT in New Plymouth was successfully implemented. RDT Pacific is working with Te Pūkenga to roll out implementation across the wider network.
The Strategic Space Plan for Te Pūkenga provides key tools and information for decision-making and has identified significant opportunity for fit for purpose space and the identification of potential space realising savings in capital and operating expenses.
The RDT Pacific Capital Intelligence team were engaged because their extensive knowledge and experience across the education sector.
